For years now, electric guitars have been graced stunning aged finishes, so Recording King thought, “Why not resonators, too?” That’s the idea behind the Swamp Dog Style-O! This brass-bodied resonator is a sweet-sounding instrument with a mucked-up finish plucked straight from the bog. Though it looks aged, the Swamp Dog Style-O is a performance-minded machine. This resonator is great for slide, fingerpicking, or simply infusing your usual tunes with serious vintage tone. A bell brass body and a 9.5-inch hand-spun resonator cone gives the Swamp Dog raspy’s lo-fi voice a big volume bump, rounded out by top-notch hardware and smart features for great playability.
Built for comfort
The Swamp Dog boasts a number of upscale features that won’t break the bank. A shapely Style-0 body ensures vintage articulation and playability that’s made for travel, gigs, or simply keeping it within reach and on display in your living space. Meanwhile, a comfortable mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard ensure great playability whether you’re plucking intricate dusty melodies or wailing on your Great Depression-era tune with a slide. As it turns out, metal resonators accept aged finishes swimmingly. The Swamp Dog’s exterior has been carefully oxidized to create unique aged green splotches across the body. Owning a Swamp Dog is like finding a pawn shop resonator that spent a good deal of time outdoors on swampy porches, exposed to the elements.

Despite its slim size, Recording King went to great lengths to ensure this resonator has stellar volume and projection. The Swamp Dog Style-0 Resonator body is made from only the finest bell brass. This body yields distinct metallic tone that’s not only classic and rich, but also a little rough around the edges, just like it should be. Sound is further amplified by a hand-spun 9.5-inch European resonator cone that outperforms mass-produced stamped cones in every way including tone, volume, sustain. A hand-spun cone is a worthy and, frankly, expected feature seeing as Recording King is one of the few resonator makers whose roots stretch far back into the 20th century. And at either end of this guitar, you’ll find premium hardware that leaves nothing to chance: there’s a bone nut, a hardwood ebony saddle, a maple bridge, and sturdy nickel tuners with an 18:1 ratio for reliable and smooth workhorse performance 24/7.
Recording King: retro refreshed
The landmark Recording King brand traces its origins back to 1930s building contracts with the retail titan Montgomery Ward. During the early days of radio and recorded music, affordable but well-crafted Recording King guitars, banjos, and resonators swept across the nation far and wide. Now revived, Recording King hearkens back to those early days of production-line American instruments built for pros and budding musicians alike.
