4-string Semi-hollowbody Electric Bass Guitar with Maple Body and Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, 2 Single-coil Pickups, and Mono and Stereo Output – Fireglo

A Bass Born to Be Wild

Riding high on the strength of their third single, “Born to Be Wild,” which had rocketed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, Steppenwolf stormed the stage at Fillmore East on November 8, 1968, and slayed the audience with their high-energy brand of hard rock. Inspired by popular artists of the era, such as the Byrds, the group’s two guitarists and bassist wielded Rickenbackers. Launched three years prior as a complement to the company’s thinline semi-hollowbody guitars, the Rickenbacker Model 4005 bass featured the same unique construction and unmistakable looks. Now, America’s original boutique guitar maker has issued a meticulous reissue of this coveted instrument, which has been out of production for over 30 years. The Rickenbacker 4005V boasts top-shelf tonewoods, premium electronics, and the warm, punchy resonance of its storied ancestor. With rare original 4005s fetching five figures, today’s 4005V is your opportunity to own the legend at half the price — with perfect playability and a warranty.

Warm resonance and treble punch

We’re always impressed with the outstanding build quality of Rickenbacker instruments. The Rickenbacker 4005V is crafted from high-grade maple. The inherent brightness of this premium tonewood perfectly offsets the warm resonance of the body’s semi-hollow construction, resulting in a fat, punchy, and lively sound that is quite different from that of a solidbody bass. Maple is also very stable and aids in maintaining the structural integrity of the neck, which is reinforced by a walnut stripe as well as a dual-action truss rod. The 4005V’s thick Caribbean rosewood fingerboard adds a further touch of warmth and harmonic richness to the sound.

Rick-O-Sound opens a world of sonic possibilities

Rickenbacker spec’d the 4005V bass with a pair of single-coil bass “Toaster” pickups and two output jacks, the first of which delivers a standard mono signal. The second jack is a stereo Rick-O-Sound output, which delivers the output of each pickup as a separate signal. On the 4005V, the pickups are butted right up against the neck and the bridge, and their extreme positioning along the string path results in dramatic sonic breadth when output as a stereo signal. Just think about the possibilities! Why let your guitarist and keyboard player have all the fun? You could send the neck pickup to one amp and the bridge pickup to another, pan the pickups hard left and hard right, or insert different effects pedals in each signal path to craft immersive stereo soundscapes. With the Rickenbacker 4005V, you’re no longer relegated to simply holding down the bottom end!
