Description

The House of GuitarsĀ® is a locally owned family business that opened in 1964. Music is our passion and we strive to ensure that we meet every customer’s highest expectation. As such, we do the following for every transaction:

  • Every listing (UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE) goes through a photoshoot to highlight the uniqueness of every instrument
  • All guitars go through an inspection and set-up with our professional in-store luthiers to make sure they are in top shape before shipment
  • Every package we ship comes extra packed to ensure the absolute safest travel from our store to your hands
  • All shipments go out ASAP. Our first priority upon seeing a purchase is getting it out, so expect to see your tracking number the next business day if purchased after 4pm or even the day of if purchased in the morning. Shipments do not get picked up on weekends so if purchased over weekend expect to see it going out Monday
  • All of our workers here have a love for music and either are professional, seasoned musicians, or have a degree within the music field, so please give us a call or shoot us a message!

Check out our social media pages to stay in the loop as well to see our old commercials, rock-star visits, cool new arrivals, or just to see what we’re all about.

Paying tribute to the rare transitional models from 1965

In early 1965, the original Firebirdā„¢ design transitioned through several different iterations. One of the significant transitions that occurred flipped the headstock to the Non-Reverse shape. Unlike the original Reverse Firebird headstock design, which featured a two-layered headstock with a holly veneer, the new headstock was flat, like the bill of a platypus. The Platypus-style Firebird featured six-in-line tuners rather than the banjo-style tuners that were used on previous Firebird models. The Firebird Platypus pays tribute to those rare transitional models. It features a mahogany body with a glued-in, set neck and the appearance of a traditional neck-through Reverse Firebird body. The mahogany neck has a fast-playing SlimTaperā„¢ profile and a rosewood fretboard with a 12ā€ radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays and sports the Platypus-style headstock with a Graph TechĀ® nut and GroverĀ® Mini RotomaticĀ® tuners. The Platypus-style headstock has been slightly modified to provide straight string pull for less friction and improved tuning stability. The other ends of the strings are routed over a Nashville Tune-O-Maticā„¢ bridge for precise intonation and solidly anchored with an aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece for outstanding sustain. The Firebird is one of the most distinctive-looking guitar designs ever, and the Firebird Platypus takes this legendary guitar a step further with its unique appearance. Its tone is just as unique due to its two articulate, historically accurate Firebird mini humbuckerā„¢ pickups. They are equipped with Alnico 5 magnets and can deliver tones with a nearly bell-like chime when played clean and great rock and blues tones that easily cut through the mix when pushed. Individual volume and tone controls allow you to tailor the sound even further, and of course, the pickguard features the legendary hot-stamped Firebird graphic. A Gibson hardshell case is also included.
