Davey Allen’s Gibson Hummingbird Rosewood, “The Allen Hummingbird”
A Gibson Classic from the Legendary House of Guitars, Personalized and Played by Davey Allen
There’s something special about a guitar that feels like an extension of the player – one that carries their tone, touch, and identity in every note. For Davey Allen, that guitar is the Gibson Hummingbird Standard Rosewood, and he calls his unique model “The Allen Hummingbird.”
This particular instrument features a subtle but striking custom touch: a truss rod cover from the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee engraved with “Allen” in Gibson’s signature cursive script, making it unmistakably his. It’s both a tribute to Gibson’s timeless craftsmanship and a symbol of Allen’s growing musical aspirations.
“When I picked up the guitar and played it for the first time at House of Guitars in Rochester,” Davey said, “I felt it was the best guitar I had ever played. I knew I had to get it.”
Rock/grunge artist Davey Allen has been playing guitar since he was 12 years old. His first guitar was a Greg Bennet acoustic before he acquired a Gibson G-45 Studio in 2020 from House of Guitars, the Rochester world-famous music store. Four years later at the end of 2024, with music taking off after starting to do local shows in his hometown of Rochester and posting on social media, Davey felt it was time for an upgrade.
“My G-45 Studio was in rough shape,” said Davey. “When I took it to House of Guitars, even after 4 years, they were the best people to work with and helped me find the perfect guitar. This Hummingbird was it, and they gave me a great deal on it. They also took my old G-45 Studio back and got it into great shape for someone else to play and love.”
Davey did a live performance over the summer out on the lawn at House of Guitars, and will be performing at the Gibson Garage on January 13th in 2026 at 3 pm.
“I have a great relationship with both House of Guitars and Gibson now, which I hope to continue for many years.”
About The Gibson Hummingbird Rosewood
The guitar is seen at all of Davey’s live shows and most notably in the stairwell he films videos in for social media, which is how he gained much of his following. Gibson Hummingbirds are known especially for their expressive highs and warm tones. Combine that with Allen’s gritty, booming voice and you get a rock/grunge blend that cuts deep with every song and every note.
This particular Hummingbird is the Rosewood Burst model, which has a slightly fuller bass response and overtone complexity due to the rosewood body. So, the mid and high tones really cut through and sing while the low end gives you a full, deep sound to round it out.
All Rosewood Hummingbirds feature a Sitka Spruce top with the deep red burst design, solid rosewood sides and back, a mahogany neck, gold Glover Rotomatic tuning knobs, and the classic hummingbird stencil pickup guard. The guitar also features the L.R. Baggs VTC pickup, which are renowned as top of their class when it comes to acoustic pickups. This explains why Allen uses it at every live show, as the live sound through the pickups perfectly emulates the raw sound of the guitar and also provide a quick tone-adjustment knob in the sound hole to dial in the sound for the room or the song.
This specific Hummingbird is one of just a few Hummingbirds and Gibson models that House of Guitars sells. With guitars lined from the floor to the ceiling, their inventory is bound to have something for everyone, whether on a budget, needing something custom, or anything in between. House of Guitars is claimed as “the largest guitar store in the world” and has been operational since 1964. Many icons and music tours stop in when visiting the area to take a look around including the likes of Metallica, The Beatles, Ozzy Osbourne, The Goo Goo Dolls, Aerosmith, and many more. Many of these legends have pictures, guitars, and other equipment signed or that belonged to them in the store itself, which you can see when you visit.
