Description
Celebrated Acoustic from Gibson
Once again, Gibson celebrates “The King of the Flat-tops” with the 1957 SJ-200. This Super Jumbo body acoustic features hand-selected maple for the back and sides, an ultra-vintage headstock “stinger,” and a Thermally Aged Sitka spruce top. The solid spruce top is paired with beautiful flame maple back and sides for a stellar tonewood pairing that delivers big, rich tone and incredible volume. A gorgeous 2-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard also offers impeccable playability and feel — ideal for flat-picking or big, wide-open strumming. Play the SJ-200 and you will know why it was a favorite among so many early rock and rollers. From Elvis to Keith Richards, the SJ-200 graced many stages and was front and center on numerous classic recordings.
Fine appointments
Running up and down the entire length of the 1957 SJ-200’s rosewood fingerboard are Gibson’s mother-of-pearl Graduated Crown inlays, which are inserted using a special process that eliminates gaps without fillers. Equally stunning are the custom floral pickguard and iconic Four Bar Moustache bridge — truly iconic, stage-ready appointments that give the SJ-200 its unmistakable vibe and aesthetic appeal. A genuine bone nut and saddle also enhance tone. Finally, the vintage headstock “stinger” on the back takes this 1957 SJ-200 into the deep pages of Gibson history when this feature was included on some of finest guitars. It’s a feature that collectors and general enthusiasts will appreciate.
Super Jumbo body style
Gibson’s Super Jumbo guitars were originally built to cut through the loudest acoustic ensembles, allowing them to compete with the mandolins and banjos that were prevalent in “pre-amplified” times. It’s still a thrill to hear the well-balanced sound of a Super Jumbo ringing out loud and clear. Many guitarists — from rockers to country pickers — choose these guitars for their incredible sound, projection, build quality, and, let’s face it, stunning looks.
