First introduced in 1951 as a slightly smaller, less flashy version of the popular J-200, the Gibson J-185 quickly became a legend legend of its own among players of the day. Now Gibson brings you that vintage design and sound with the Gibson Acoustic J-185 Vintage. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and flamed maple back and sides, this acoustic puts out the kind of tone that stops the convos and gets your audience’s attention. Simply put, the J-185 produces a beautifully balanced, robust tone that spans the full frequency range. In addition to these fine body tonewoods, a gorgeous mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard on the J-185 offers players impeccable response and playability. And when you are ready to plug this gorgeous instrument in, an LR Baggs VTC system delivers mind-blowing, authentic amplified acoustic tone.

Attention to design brings outstanding amplified tone

The Element under-saddle transducer in the VTC system has a minimalist design and broad surface contact area that lets it get the most out of your instrument. It is engineered to sense every movement of your guitar’s top, delivering natural tone that is free of the typical piezo “quack” that can plague typical under-saddle designs. It is also a fantastic way for modern fingerstyle players to get the most from their percussive techniques. And with controls located conveniently in the soundhole, you won’t have an unsightly preamp cut into the side of your guitar.

Keeping with the “studio-like tone” promise, LR Baggs outfitted this system with dynamic EQ. In essence, this is a series of compressors over the low, mid, and high frequencies that respond in real time to the way you play your guitar. It’s much like having your own studio engineer at the gig. This dynamic EQ is ideal for eliminating any problematic frequencies that can muddy up your sound or veer off into howling feedback at loud volumes. It also evens your tone and sustain the harder you play – letting you really push the incredible tone of the J-185 whether you are flat-picking, finger-picking, strumming big open first-position chords with vigor or subtly plucking out melodic lines.
