Townshend’s Classic Rick 1993 12-string!

Pete Townshend asked Rickenbacker to upgrade his cherished Model 1993 guitar. The result is the 1993Plus, enhanced with an 1/8-inch wider neck, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard, and more stable 2-piece neck design with a round heel for increased comfort and upper-fret access. This classic semi-hollowbody 12-string electric guitar is fitted with three vintage reissue Toaster Top single-coil pickups, stereo output, a trapeze tailpiece, vintage knobs, and a proper F-hole. Double body binding and pearlescent inlays add a touch of refinement. X-bracing in the body helps to bring out the rich, full jangle our favorite Rickenbacker 12-strings are famous for. The original 1993 design was once exclusive to the British distributor Rose Morris in the ’60s. Now it can be yours — if you act fast.

All-maple construction provides a bright tonal foundation

Everything but the Rickenbacker 1993Plus’s fingerboard is made from high-grade maple. Maple’s density is partly responsible for the 1993Plus’s famous sustain and top-end shimmer. Maple is also very stable, aiding in maintaining the structural integrity of the neck. The thick rosewood fingerboard adds a touch of warmth and harmonic richness to this otherwise bright instrument. Pearlescent triangle inlays add a distinctive visual touch.

Three Toaster Top pickups deliver a broad range of tones

The heart and soul of all Rickenbacker guitars are the proprietary electronics. In the 1993Plus electric 12-string, you’ll find a trio of vintage Toaster Top single-coils. These pickups deliver the stringiness of many other single-coils, but with an aggressive cut that drove many of the Who’s early hits, such as “I Can’t Explain.” A 5-knob control layout with blend knob gives you a wide range of sounds to play with.

Parallel-mono output for instant stereo guitar

If you’re looking for an instant wall of sound, Rickenbacker’s Rick-O-Sound parallel-mono outputs do the trick, sending each pickup to its own destination. This lets you drive two amps at once for extra output and color blending. For example, you can feed your 1993Plus’s neck pickup into a clean American tweed for bass definition, then output your bridge pickup to an overdriven British stack for a taste of tube grit. This option is also great for studio guitarists. By sending one signal to two sources, you can get an instant stereo track with only one performance.
