Stunning Re-creation of Ben Gibbard’s Touring Workhorse

With his deeply personal lyrics and emotive songwriting approach, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard is an influential presence in indie music, inspiring legions of artists to pick up an offset and pour their hearts out. While Death Cab’s studio albums are typically laid-back, melancholic affairs, their live shows are often raucous and bristling with the punk rock energy that captivated Ben to pursue his own musical fortunes. The Fender Ben Gibbard Mustang bottles that energy in the form of a meticulous re-creation of Ben’s highly modified touring workhorse. While ostensibly a standard short-scale ‘Stang, this signature model has a few tricks up its sleeve, such as an ultra-lightweight chambered ash body, a Modern “C” profile neck, and a hardtail bridge fashioned in the likeness of an old-school Mustang vibrato. Moreover, the Ben Gibbard Mustang boasts an undercover hardtail bridge masquerading as a vintage-style vibrato bridge, giving you a cool, classic look along with rock-solid reliability!

Two vintage-inspired angled single-coil pickups

The soul of any great Mustang is its angled single-coil pickups, and the Ben Gibbard Mustang proves is no exception. Its vintage-inspired single-coils serve up the clear, organic tones of Fender’s original Mustang single-coils, while offering a crisp, Strat-like tonality that further expands this instrument’s versatile voice. A 3-position rotary pickup switch selects between the tubular-sounding neck pickup and aggressive bridge unit.

Neck designed for the modern player

Another distinguishing aspect of the Ben Gibbard Mustang its Modern “C” profile neck. While this hot-rodded Mustang does indeed feature a vintage-correct 24-inch scale length, its fingerboard is designed with a 9.5-inch radius. Fender has been using this radius for a long time because it offers comfortable chording and unimpeded single-note playing and bending. The neck’s Modern “C” profile fills your hand in a very satisfying manner, and 22 medium-jumbo frets present a wonderful middle ground for numerous styles.
